VISIT OF H. R. H. THE PRINCE OF WALES
The Prime Minister today welcomed the announcement from
Buckingham Palace that The Prince of Wales will visit
Australia next year to open the Fiftieth Anniversary
Convention of Apex Clubs of Australia in Geelong on
Friday, 17 April.
He said that The Prince of Wales would be assured of a
warm ,.-elcome throughout his visit.
Actual dates for the visit and the length of time
The Prince of Wales will be in Australia have yet to be
decided. These details and the places to be visiteiC will
be announced as soon as practicable.
This be the eighth occasion on which The Prince of
Wales has visited Australia since he first came in 1966
as a student attending ' Timbertop', an annexe of Geelong
Church of England Grammar School. 000---
BACKGROUND NOTE RE PREVIOUS VISITS
1966 A student at ' Timbertop', Victoria.
1967 Attended in Melbourne at the Memorial Service
for the late Harold tioit.
1970 Participated for some of the time ( NSW, Victoria
and Tasmania) during the visit by The Queen and
The Duke of Edinburgh with The Princess Anne, for
the bicentenary of Captain Cook's discovery voyage.
1974 Opened the Anglo-Australian Telescope at Siding
Springs, New South Wales ( and also visited Canberra,
Queensland, Victoria and Tasmania).
1977 Visited all States, the Australian Capital Territory
and the Northern Territory as Patron of The Queen's
Silver Jubilee Appeal for Young Australians..
1978 Attended in Melbourne the funeral of the late
Sir Robert Menzies.
1979 Visited Western Australia for its sesquicentenary.
celebrations and in Canberra attended the Silver
Jubilee celebrations of the Australian Academy
