Visit by HRH The Prince of-Wales
His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales has accepted an
invitation from the Commonwealth Government to visit Australia
in November primarily as Patron of The Queen's Silver Jubilee
Appeal for Young Australians.
Announcing the visit today the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser,
said that the primary purpose of Prince Charles' coming at that
time is to undertake engagements in connection with the Silver
Jubilee Appeal. He will also attend a number of events arranged
by the Silver Jubilee Commemorative Organisation to celebrate
The Queen's Jubilee in Australia.
Prince Charles is expected to arrive in Australia on
Tuesday 1 November and to rest that day in Canberra. His program
of official engagements would start in Canberra on Wednesday 2
November. He will leave Australia from Perth on Friday 11
November. The Prince of Wales during his stay will visit each
of the States.
The sequence for places to be visited has yet to be
decided and dates have yet to be settled. Those details will
be announced as soon as possible.
The invitation had followed discussions which Mr Harry M.
Miller, Chairman of the Silver Jubilee Commemorative Organisation
and Sir Ian McLennan, KBE, National Chairman of The Queen's
Silver Jubilee Appeal had with The Prince of Wales in London in
May and June of this year. Mr Fraser said that he had been
pleased to exttend the invitation on behalf of the Government
and people of Australia and was delighted that The Prince of
Wales had accepted.
Consultations will take place between the Commonwealth
and State Governments and representatives from the National Appeal
Committee, the State Committees and the Committee for the
Territories, to prepare in draft form a program of engagements
for the visit. Those details will ' be announced when an approved
program has been decided.
