The Council of the Australian National Gallery has accepted
the generous offer of 24 sketch books of the late Sir William
Dobell from the Trustees of the Sir William Dobell Art
Foundation. The sketch books contain studies for many of the artist's
best known works including " The Billy Boy", " Mrs. South
Kensington", " Margaret Olley", and many others, as well as
a number of landscapes. The Trustees have also assigned
Q copyright in the sketch books to the Gallery.
The gift is a valuable addition to the Gallery's Australian
Q collection and adds depth to Sir William's representation
in that collection.
