APPOINTMENT OF AUSTRALIAN EQUERRY TO QUEEN FOR ROYAL VISIT
The Queen has approved the appointment of Lieutenant Colonel
P. R. Badman, Royal Australian Armoured Corps, as Australian
Equerry to The Queen for her visit to Australia in March 1977.
The appointment has followed advice received from Buckingham
Palace that The Queen would be glad to have an Australian
Equerry appointed for the visit.
Background Note
Lieutenant Colonel Badman, aged 40, married, has been on
exchange duties with the British Army since August 1974 and
returned to Australia in December 1976 to take up an appointment
in Headquarters, Field Force Command.
In 1957 Lieutenant Colonel Badman graduated as Lieutenant
Australian Staff Corps and was allotted to the Royal AuStralian
Armoured Corps Armoured School. Between 1958 and 1967 his
service included fifteen months Armoured Training in the United
Kingdom 1962-3 and service with the Armoured Centre, Armaoured
Regiment in Southern Command and South Vietnam. He was a
student at the Australian Staff College during 1969 and from
1970 until leaving for England in 1974 to serve as an Exchange
Instructor at the Staff College, Camberley, held appointments
in the Directorates of Armour, and Material Requirements at
Army Headquarters in Canberra.
