VISIT OF PRESIDENT OF NAURU
The President of the Republic of Nauru, His Excellency
Dr Hammer DeRoburt, 0. B. will make. an official
visit to-Australia from Thursday December 9 to Thursday
December 16, at the invitation of the Governor-General.
The Presid ent will be accompanied by Madame DeRoburt.
After visiting Canberra they will visit Queensland, New
South Wales and Victoria.
President DeRoburt will have discussions in Canberra with
the Prime Minister, the Treasurer and other senior Ministers.
Although phosphate remains the most significant bilateral
link between Australia and Nauru, further economic bonds
were evolving.
An outstanding example of this was the multi-storey Nauru
House in Melbourne which was expected to be opened early in
1977.
Australia and Nauru have many interests in common, especially
matters which arose out of membership of such major organisations
as the South Pacific Forum and the South Pacific Commission.
