INDUSTRIES ASSISTANCE COMMISSION ACT
TEMPORARY ASSISTANCE AUTHORITY
MOTOR VEHICLE TYRES
The Prime Minister, Mr Whitlam, announced today
that he had sent a reference to the Temporary Assistance
Authority on whether it is necessary that urgent action
be taken to protect the Australian industry in relation
to the importation of motor vehicle tyres.
Mr Whitlam said that the reference followed
representations made by the Australian Tyre Manufacturers'
Association concerning injury to the tyre industry caused
by import competition. Under the Act the Authority is required to report
within 30 days.
