PAYMENT TO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AUTHORITIES
The Prime Minister, Mr Whitlam announced today that
he had advised State Premiers that money allocated under
the Local Government Grants Bill, 1974, was being paid
today to the respective State Treasuries.
This follows the passage of the Bill through both
Houses of Parliament last week. The Governor-General
gave his assent to the Bill yesterday.
Mr Whitlam said that the assistance would be
provided to each State in one lump sum payment. This was
a special measure for 1974/ 75.
Mr Whitlam said he -had asked the State Premiers
for their co-operation in ensuring that these funds were
paid promptly to the respective local government authorities.
