SALARY INCREASES FOR NoT. COUNCILLORS
Federal Cabinet today decided to give salary
increases to all members of t-he Northern Territory
Legislative Council.
The increases are the largest in the Council's
history. The salary for ordinary Council members will
rise from $ 2,750 $ 7,250.
The salary of the Chairman will rise from $ 3,350
to $ 8,700. There will also be increases in expenses of
Council members. The rises are the first for the Council since
1968. Cabinet its special meeting in Sydney was told
that the increase was warranted because of the increased
amount of constituoncy work done by Council members
following a rapid :,-ise in the Territory's population.
