APPOINTMENT OF MR. D. L. LINEHAN AS A
COMMISSIONER OF THE PUBLIC SERVICE BOARD
The Prime Minister ( Mr E. G. Whitlam) today announced ' the
appointment of Mr D. L. Linehan to succeed Mr A. B. McFarlane
as a Commissioner of the Public Service Board.
Mr Linehan, aged 46, is an ex-serviceman, an Associate
of the Australian Society of Accountants and a Member of the
Industrial Relations Society.
Mr Linehan, who joined the Public Service in 1945,
is on leave from the Taxation Office while Federal Secretary
of the Administrative and Clerical officers' Association which
has more than 40,000 members in the Public Service. He has
held that position since 1968 and has been President of the
Council of Commonwealth Public Service Organisations ( members
of whose affiliates total about 140,000) since 1969. Mr Linehan
has been Deputy Chairman of the Joint Council an employer/
employee body which advises the Public Service Board on general
conditions of employment since 1967 and has also served as
Contributors' Representative on the Superannuation Board.
Mr Linehan has long and wide practical experience in
industrial relations in the Public Service. His understanding
of union and public service affairs has attracted the respect
of both employees and management.
Mr Linehan's appointment is for a period of five years
commencing on 1 June 1973.
