FOREIGN MINTST7R OF TANZANIA
TO VISIT APSTRAIIA
The Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs,
Mr Whitlam, said today that he was looking forward to the visit
of the Foreign Minister of Tanzania, Mr John Malecela, who will
be arriving in Australia on 9 March for what he has described as
a goodwill visit.
It is understood that one of the purposes of Mr Malecela's
visit is to convey to the Prime Minister a personal message from
the President of Tanzania, Mr Julius Nyerere. He has also intimated
that he wishes to discuss Australia's attitude to African questions
with the new Government.
0 In addition to his call on the Prime Minister, Mr Malecela
is exnected to have discussions with the Special Minister of State,
Senator Willesee, and with the Secretary of the Department of
Foreign Affairs, Sir Keith Waller.
As the first African Foreign Minister to visit Australia
since the new Government came to office, Mr Malecela's visit was
very welcome, Mr Whitlam added. ./ 2

At the conclusion of his Australian visit, Mr Malecela
also plans to visit New Zealand.
( Note for editors Mr Malecela plans to reach Sydney on Qantas
flight QF 642 from Mauritius at 1320 hours on Friday, 9 March,
and to arrive in Canberra on a VIP flight about mid-afternoon
