Statement by the Prime Minister, the Rt Hon. William McMahon, CH, P
The Prime Minister has announced that the Historic
Memorials Committee has accepted the portrait of the Rt Hon.
J. G. Gorton, painted by Miss June Mendoza of
Melbourne for inclusion in the Historic Memorials Collection.
The portrait is presently being reframed after which it
is expected that it will be hung in Kings Hall, Parliament
House, Canberra along with the portraits of Governors-General,
other Prime Ministers, Presidents of the Senate and Speakers
of the House of Representatives.

BACKGROUND: MISS JUNE MENDOZA PORTRAIT PAINTER
Miss Mendoza received her art education in Melbourne
and London. She is a member of the Royal Society of Portrait
Painters, the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, the Contemporary
Portrait Society and the Pastel Society. She has accepted
commissions in New York, London, and Paris, and previous
subjects have included the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward and
Miss. Joan Sutherland.
