RETIREMENT OF SIR ALLEN BROWN
Statement by the Prime Minister, Mr William McMahon
Sir Allen Brown, CBE, a farmer Ambassador tojapan
and, earlier, Permanent Head of tLie Prime Minister's Department
and Secretary to Cabinet, will retire from the Commonwealth Service
with effect from 30 September 1971.
Sir Allen has had a distinguished career with the
Commonwealth Service, holding a number of senior appointments and
showing himself to be an outstanding public servant both in Australia
and overseas. Sir Allen's appointments as Australian representative
on the Board of the British Phosphate Commissioners and Australian
Commissioner on the Christmas Island Phosphate Commission are
not affected by his retirement from the Commonwealth Service. Hie
will also be completing his current work as Chairman of the Committee
of Inquiry into Higher Education in the Territory of Papua and New
Guinea and as a Member of the Ddence Legal Services Committee.
