-QUEENSLAND -INDUSTRIAL DISPUTE
The Premier of Queensland, Mr Bjelke -Petersen, has
sent a telegram to the Prime Minister appealing to Mr Gorton to " exert
his urgent endeavours" to resolve an industrial dispute involving the
AMPOL and AMOCO Refineries.
The Prime Minister has replied as follows:-
III REFER TO YOUR TELEGRAM DATED 11 MARCH
ABOUT THE INDUSTRIAL DISPUTE AT THE AMPOL AND AMOCO
REFINERIES IN BRISBANE. I AM INFORMED THE DISPUTE
IS IN THE HANDS OF THE COMMONWEALTH CONCILIATION
AND ARBITRATION COMMISSION WHICH IS MAKING STRENUOUS
EFFORTS TO RESOLVE IT AND HENCE PUT AN END TO THE
DISRUPTION CAUSED IN YOUR STATE BY IT. THE
COMMISSION HAS ORDERED A RESUMPTION OF WORK AND
HAS INDICATED THAT IT WILL DEAL WITH THE MERITS OF
THE DISPUTE AT AN EARLY DATE. I AM INFORMED A
MEETING OF STRIKERS IS TAKING PLACE THIS AFTERNOON.
I AM HOPEFUL THAT AS A RESULT OF THE EFFORTS OF THE
COMMISSION THEY WILL DECIDE TO RETURN TO WORK AND
HAVE THEIR CLAIMS RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION. i
