PRESS APPOINTMENT FOR ROYAL VISIT
The Prime Minister, Mr Gorton, said today that press
arrangements for next year's Royal Visit would be supervised by his
Press Secretary, Mr Tony Eggleton.
As Press Co-ordinator for the visit, Mr Eggleton
would be responsible for the coverage by Australian and overseas
media, and would maintain close liaison with The Queen's Press
Secretary. Mr Gorton also announced that Mr Harry Rayner, the
Director of Public Relations for the Department of Defence, had been
appointed Commonwealth Press Liaison Officer. Mr Rayner would
begin duty as soon as possible, and would handle the detailed
arrangements for the large accredited press party expected to be
following the Royal Vi sitors throughout their stay in Australia. He
would be assisted by Mr Bruce King, of the Australian News and
Information Bureau, who would be Assistant Commonwealth Press
Liaison Officer. Mr Gorton said that until the start of the Royal Visit,
Mr Eggleton would combine his supervisory role as Press Co-ordinator
with his duties as Press Secretary to the Prime Minister.
