TWO DEPUTY HIGH COMMISSIONERS FOR LONDON
Statement by the Prime Minister, Mr. John Gorton
The Prime Minister, Mr. John Gorton, today announced
the appointment of two Deputy High Commissioners for Australia in
Britain. Mr. R. W. Boswell, 0. B. E. Secretary to the
Department of National Development, is to succeed Mr. J. L. Knott,
C. B. who was appointed Director-General, Posts and Telegraphs,
in December last year.
Mr. W. B. Pritchett, at present Assistant Secretary,
Department of External Affairs, has been appointed to a new office of
Deputy High Commissioner which replaces the present position of Senior
External Affairs Representative in the United Kingdom.
Both Mr. Boswell and Mr. Pritchett will take up their new
appointments shortly.

Biographical Background: Mr. Boswell has been Secretary to the Department of
National Development since 1965. He was Controller of the Weapons
Research Establishment in South Australia from 1958 until 1965 and from
1948 had been associated with the development and operations of the
Establishment. Mr. Pritchett joined the Department of External Affairs
in 1945. His last overseas appointment was High Commissioner in
Singapore from 1965 to 1967. Earlier he had served in Indonesia,
Germany, India and Malaysia.
