NATIONAL IRT GALLERY COMMITTEE OF INQUIRY
Statement by tha Prime Minister, Sir Robert Mnnzies
The Prime Minister today made a further statement
about the Cmmittee inauiring into the establishment of a
National Art Gallery in Canberra whose appointment he recently
announced. He said that as promise, two sonior Public
cervants had now been depated to assist the Commihtee: they
were Mr. J. W. Overall, the National C. antal
Dwelu pent Commissioner and Mr. A. L. Moore, Assistant
Secretary, Prime Minister's Department.
The Prime Minister said the Committee had begun
its investigation and was prepared to receive sunestionAr
from oeryons cr organisations interested in the develoDment
of a hational art gallery in Cunberra. In the first ihstance
these -uestions should be made in writing t-the Secretgry,
Nationalfrt Gallery Committee of Inquir Prove Minister

BACKGROUND NOTE The terms of reference of the Committee are
" To report on the proposal for a Nutional
Art Gallery with particular reference to the fUnctions
of such a galler and the method of control, the
anccmmodation ani the staff to carry out these
functions." The members of the Committee are
