ECONOMIC CONSULTATIONS
Statement by the Acting Prime Minister, the Rt. Honourable John McEwen
The Acting Prime Minister, the Rt. Honourable John
McEwcn, said today that invitations had been extended to
representatives of national organisations to participate in a
series of economic consultations to be held on 14th and 15th July.
Mr. Mc wen said that it was important for the Government
to obtain first-hand and up-to-date information and views on
developments in the economy from those who were actively engaged
in business and industry. Regular consultations of this kind,
which had begun in 1962, had greatly assisted the Government in
its consideration of economic policies.
A committcc of Ministers would meet representatives of
a group of national organisations in Canberra on the aftecrnoon of
Wednesday, 14th July. The organisations invitoed to attend were:
Associated Chambers of Commerce of Australia
Associated Chambers of Manufactures of Australia
National Farmers' Union of Australia
Australian Primary Producers' Union
Australian Woolgrowers' and Graziers' Council
Australian V.' ool and Meat Producers' Federation
Australian Bankers' Association
Master Builders' Federation of Australia
Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries
Australian Council of Retailers.
At 10 a. m. on Thursday, 15th July, Ministers would
have discussions with representatives of the Export Development
Council, and at 11.30 a. m. with representatives of the
Manufacturing Industries Advisory Council. At 2.30 p. m. Ministers
would meet representatives of the. Australian Council of Trade
Unions. CANBERRA.
