The Acting Prime Minister, the Right lion. J,
McEwen, announced today that the Government had agreed to
give financial assistance to a group of veterans attending
the Commemorative Ceremony in Canberra of the Golden Jubilee
of Anzac in April this year.
Mr. Mcr~ wen said that it was contemplated that the
representative group would include about five Gallipoli
veterans from each State and their wives, a war widow from
each State; and two representatives of World ' dar I nurses.
It was also hoped that it would be possible to bring representatives
from the Northern Territory and from Papua and New
Guinea. The Government had arranged with the Returned
Servicemen's League to reimburse the League up to an amount of
œ C59OOO to cover fares and essential accommodation and meals
for the group, The R. S. L. would be responsible for selecting
the State representatives and making all other necessary
