ECONOMIC CONSULTATIONS
Statement by the Acting Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. John McEwen
The Acting Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. John McEwen,
said today that senior Ministers would have discussions in
Canberra next week with representatives of industry and commerce.
Mr. McEwen said that these economic consultations, which had
been first instituted by the Government in 1962, had proved
extremely valuable as a means of securing the up-to-date views
of those engaged in producticn and business on trends in the
economy. Mr. McEwen said that the Government placed great
importance on this regular intercharge of information with the
private sector of the economy. He said by this means both the
Government and industry and commerce were fully appraised of each
other's assessment of economic trends.
The Ministers would first have discussions on the
afternoon of 13th July with a group of national organisations.

On the morning of Tuesday, July 14, Ministers will
have discussions with representatives of the Australian Council
of Trade Unions. At 2,30 pomo that day, Ministers will meet
representatives of the Manufacturing Industries Advisory Council
and at 4 p. m. representatives of the Export Development Council.
