PM 82/1963 - Retirement of Mr Harold Macmillan
P. M. No. 82/ 1963
I deeply regret that illness should have made it necessary for Mr. Macmillan to retire from an office in which he has served his country and the cause of international peace with great devotion and distinction.
A man of rare scholarship, great talent and unchallengeable personal integrity, Harold Macmillan has set a great example of unselfish public service. He must have a secure place in British history.
