CONFERENCES WITH INDUSTRY.

In a statement issued from his office in Canberra,
the Prime Minister said that on two occasions in 1962.
senior members of the Cabinet met in conference with rep.
resentatives of primary and secondary industry and other
economic interests in Australia in order to hear at
first hand their views on current and prospective developments
in the economy. These consultations have been most
valuable to the Government and, as previously announced9
the Government intends that further conferences should
be held from time to time for this purpose.
The Government has therefore invited representatives
of the bodies concerned in the previous consultations
to meet Ministers in Canberra on two days in the week
beginning Monday 11thø February, The object of these
conferences would bo to enable the Government to be fully
informed on the up-to-date views on economic matters of
those directly and intimately concerned with the conduct
of practical business affairs,
The first conference is proposed for 10.30 a. om
on Monday, 11th, February, and the following organisations
have boon invited to attend:-
Associated Chambers of Commerce of Australia
Associated Chambers of Manufactures of Australia
Australian Bankers' Association
Australian Council of Rotailers
Australian Council of Trade Unions
Australian Primary Producers2 Union
Australian Wool . nd Moat Producers' Federation
Australian Woolgrowors' and Graziers' Council
Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries
Master Builders' Federation of Australia
National Farmers' Union of Australia
On the following day, Tuesday, 12th February,
further conferences are proposed with representatives
of the Manufacturing Industries Advisory Council and the
Export Development Council.
