RE-APPOINTMENT OF AUSTRALIAN HIGH
COMMISSIONLR IN LONDON
Statement by the Prime Minister ( Rt, Hon. R. G. Menzies)
Sir Eric Harrison, has been
re-appointed as Australian High Commissioner in Britain for
a further term until 25th October, 1962. Sir Eric was
appointed as High Commissioner on 25th October, 1956, for a
period of five years. The current extension will therefore
increase the term of appointment to six years.
Sir Eric agreed in 1961, in view of the
approaching general election in Australia, to remain in
office for some months beyond the time of expiry of his
appointment. He has now agreed at the request of the
Government to an extension of a full twelve months.
I am grateful to Sir _ ic for his agreement to
serve the Government for this further period,
