The Prime Minister and several of his Cabinet uolleagues
today met representatives of the Federal Chamber of Automotive
Industries. The Chamber was represented by J. Dickson, President;
Mr. B. L. 3urton ( Ford Company), Vice-President and Chairman of the
Executive Committee; Mr. J. D. Ferguson ( Chrysler), Past President and
Member of the Executive Comm-ttee; iMr. J. H. Horn ( General Motors),
Immediate Past President and Meimber of the xecutive Committee;
Mr. H. J. Graves ( 3ritish Motor Corporation); Mr. Daunt,
Chief Executive Officer.
The discussion ranged over the present state of the
motor v. hicle industry and the importance of employment in this
industry to the economy in general.
The representatives of the Federal Chamber said that
they were most satisfied rith the opportunity given them to express
their views. Mr. Menzies told those present that he was now much
better informed on the position and prospects of this most
important Australian industry, and that the views expressed by the
Federal Chamber on behalf of the industry would be carefully
considered by the Government.
