SYDNEY.-Australia could be one
of the world's greatest exporters of
manufactured goods in 50 years'
time, Prime Minister R. G. Menzies
told members of the Associated
Chambers of Manufactures of Australia,
Sept. Speaking at the
ACMA annual dinner
at the Australia
Hotel, Mr Menzies
said: " If we
have enough Imagination
to get up
out of our own
backyard we will
make those who
appear to have
business booming
about them won-
R. G. Menzies der what happened
to them In
years' time What has any great
exporting country in the manufacturing
field got that we haven't got?
More skill? I don't believe it."
Other points made by Mr Menzies
were: e Australia was right at the corner
of Industrial development.
e We are already one of the great
trading nations of the world.
Australian manufacture does not
need to come of age in Australia-it
came of age a long time ago. But
It does need to come of age in the
international sense.
9 The tarming community days
have gone.
Australia was two things today
It was a great Industrial country and
a great trading country. i
e All the good things that had bean
done in Australia had been done ' by
ordinary Australian men and wom
with courage.
