CORAL SEA WEEK

FOR PRESS: CORAL SEA WEEK
Admiral Herbert G. Hopwood, Commander in Chief,
Pacific Fleet U. S. N. guest of the Commonwealth Government and
the Australian/ American Association will visit Canberra during
the Coral Sea Ideek Celebrations and will arrive at Royal
Australian Air Force Base Canberra at 4.3 P. m. on Monday 9th
May. He will be met at the Base by Senator JG. Gorton, Minister:
for the Navy, representing the Commonwealth Government, His
Excellency Mr. Jilliam. J. Sebald American Amabassador to
Australia, Vice-Admiral Burrell, Chief of the Naval Staff and
W'ing Commander Smythe Acting Officer Commanding Royal
Australian Air Force Base, Canberra.
Accompanying Admiral Hopwood on his visit will1 be
Mrs Hopwood and members of his personal staff.
On his arrival at Canberra the Admiral will inspect a
Guard of Honour after irhich he will attend a rece ption given in
his honour by the American Ambassador at His Excellency's
residence. Later the Admiral and Mrs. Hopwood will attend a
dinner given by the Minister for the Navy, Senator Gor g'on, and
Mrs. Gorton. On the second day of the visit the Admiral will lay a
wreath at the Australian -far Memorial at 10.4+ 5 a~ m. and attend
luncheon tendered in his honour by the Acting Prime Minister th
Rt. Hon. John McEwen and Commonwealth Ministers of State,
After attending Question time in the early afternoon
in the House of Representatives the Admiral will leave Canberra
from Royal Australian Air Force Base at 3.15 P. m. for Melbourne
to continue his tour of Australia.
