P. M. No. 9/ 1960
CELEBR.. TION OF ROYAL B3IRTH
Statement by the Prime Minister, Mr. R. G. Menzies
The Prime Minister asked today that Churches and
other authorities ring their bells when the Royal birth is
announced. He asked them to make this a most memorable
occasion. The Prime Minister said that the Commonwealth would
fly flags from Commonwealth buildings immediately the news
was received and that flags would continue to fly on the two
days following the announcement.
Gun salutes of 21 g uns will be fired from all
Saluting Stations throughout Australia and the Royal
Australian Air Force will fly in formation over the capital
cities to coincide with the twenty-one gun salutes. The
Royal Australian Navy will dress ships.
The Prime Minister said he understood that the
State Governments would similarly be flying flags from State
buildings and he asked every private citizen and organisation
with a flag to fly it on this great occasion.
