PORTRAIT OF LORD DInROSSIL
The Historic Memorials Committee yesterday accepted
for the Commonwealth Collection a portrait of the late
Viscount Dunrossil, former Governor-General of Australia
painted by Mr. Rex Bramleigh of Melbourne. The Chairman of
the Historic Memorials Committee is the Prime Minister and the
members are; the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the
House or Representatives, the Vice President of the Executive
Council, the Leader of the Opposition and the Leader of the
Opposition in the Senate.
The portrait will be hung in King's Hall, Parliament
House, Canberra. It was painted by Mr. Bramleigh from many photographs
made available by Lady Dunrossil. Rex Bramleigh is 40 and was
born in M1elbourne. He trained at the Victorian National Gallery
School and then under A. D. Colquhoun. He has painted portraits
of several prominent Australians including Lir. Justice Barry of
Victoria, the President General of the Methodist Church of
Australia and Emeritus Professor T. 1. Cherry. He also painted
a portrait of Viscount Slim on commission from an Indian Regiment.
