EC CNOMIC C ONSULTATIONS
Statement by the Acting Prime Minister, the Rto Hon.
John McEwen
The Acting Prime Minister2 the Rt. Hon. John
McEwen and senior Ministers had meetings this afternoon
with the Manufacturing Industries Advisory Council and
the Export Development Council. This followed talks
yesterday with representatives of commerce and industry
and this morning with the A. C. T. U.
After the meeting, Mr. McEwen said that this
was the last of the present series of economic consultations
first instituted by the Government in 1962. He expressed
the Government's appreciation of the valuable work being
done by both Councils which had been established in 1958
to advise the Government on the development of secondary
industry and the development of exports.
Apart from Mr. McEwen, Ministers present were
the Rt. Hon. Harold Holt, Treasurer, the Hon. W. McMahon,
Minister for Labour and National Service, Senator the Hon.
Shane Paltridge, Minister for Defence and Leader of the
Government in the Senate, and Senator the Hon. Harrie Wade,
Minister for Health and Acting Minister for Primary
Industry. Representatives of the Manufacturing Industries
Advisory Council paticipating in the discussions were Sir
Jamas Kirby ( Chairman), Sir Robert Webster, Mr. R. Irish,
Mr. R. Darvall and Mr. A. Glenn, The Export Development
Council was represented by Sir John Allison ( Chairman),
Mr. R. G. C. Parry Okeden, Mr. Leslie Atkinson and Mr. B. M.
