STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER, THE HON P J KEATING, MP
SECRETARY TO THE ATTORNEY-GENERAL'S DEPARTMENT
The Government will be recommending to the Governor-General the
appointment of Mr Stephen Skehill as Secretary to the Attorney-General's
Department. Mr Skehill, 44, has held senior positions in the Departments of Business and
Consumer Affairs and Social Security as well as the Attorney-General's
Department. He has been a Deputy Secretary of the Attorney-General's
Department since 1988, holding the position of Australian Government
Solicitor from 1989 to 1990. The vacancy in the Attorney-General's
Department occurs because of the Government's decision to recommend the
appointment of Mr Alan Rose as the President of the Australian Law Reform
Commission, anndunced siparately today by the Attorney-General.
The Government will recommend that these appointments take effect on
Monday, 23 May 1994.
