STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER, THE HON P. J. KEATING MP
FUNERAL OF THE LATE PRESIDENT OF FIJI
The Governor-General, the Hon Bill Hayden AC, will represent Australia at
the funeral of the late President of Fiji, Ratu Sir Penaia Ganilau. The funeral
will take place. on 29 December in Fiji.
Ratu Sir Penaia Ganilau was a respected leader who will be remembered for
his outstanding contribution to his country. He also had a long association
with Australia. His passing is a sad toss for Fiji and the Pacific region.
It is a mark of our great respect for the late President that the Governor-
General will attend the funeral ceremonies next week.
