DEATH OF RAWU SIR PENAIA GANILAU
I have sent thc following message to the Prime Minister of the Sovereign Democratic
Republic of Fiji, the Hon Major-General Sitiveni Rabuka:-
" I was very saddened to hear the -news of the death of President Ratu Sir Penaia
Ganilau. Fiji has lost a respected leader who will be remembered for his outstanding
contribution to his country as a distiguished soldier, public servant, politician and
Statesman. In addition to his achievements in high public offce, and his high chiefly statuis, Ratu
Sir Penaia w~ as widcly respected by members of all communities in Fiji.
Please accept and convey my sincere condolences, and those of the Australian
Government and people, to President Gianilau's family and to the Fijian Government
and people
