STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTR, THEL HON PJ. KEATING, MP
TERM OF GOVERNOR-GENERAL
I am pleased to announce, after consultation with the Queen, that Mr Bill Hayden, AC, will
remain in office as Governor-General of Australia until early in 1996. While the appointment of a
Governor-General is not for a fixed term, it has been traditional that appointments are for a
period of about five years. Mr Hayden will complete five years in the office in February 1994. 1
am gratefual to him for indicating his willingness to continue to serve Australia as Governor-
General for an ewended period.
