TEACHING HOSPITALS COKMflITTEE APPOINTME~ NT OF
NEW MEMBERS
Statement by the PriMe Minister, the Rt. Hon. Sir Robert Menzies
The Prime Minister announced today the appointment
of two members to the Universities Commission's Committee on
the Teaching Costs of Medical Hospitals, to replace the
late Professor J. G. Hayden and the late Sir Herbert Schlink.
The two new members are Dr. H, Selle Chairman
of the Hospitals Commission of New South Wales and former
General Superintendent of the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital,
and Professor FR. Magarey, Professor of Pathology and Dean
of the Medical Faculty, University of Sydney.
Certain help for teaching hospitals for the
1961-63 triennium had already been given by the Commonwealth,
on the basis of recommendations by the Committee to the
Universities Commission and so to the Government. Tho
Committee was now investigating the needs of the teaching
hospitals for the 1964+-66 triennium and it was expected that
its findings would be conveyed to the Government some time
before the end of the current financial year.
