The Government will be recommending to the
Governor-General that Mr Tony Cole, currently Chairman of
the Industry Commission, be appointed Secretary to the
Treasury with effect from 14 February 1991. Mr Cole has
held his present appointment since 1989.
He began his career in the Treasury in 1968 and held
senior positions in that Department ( including a period
in the Department of Finance from 1977 to 1979) until
1987.
He then spent: some two years in the Department of the
Prime Minister and Cabinet before taking up his
appointment to the Industry Commission.
Mr Cole will take up his appointment on 14 February 1991.
