VISIT OF MR. IKEDA
Statement by the Prime Minister, The Rt. Hon. SilrRobert
Menzies, M. P.
The Prime iinister of Japan, Mr. Haynto IKEDA,
will make an official visit to Australia from September 29
to October 3. His itinerary is cxpected to include
Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne.
Mr. Ikeda will be the guest of the Australian
Government. The Government's invitation to him was extended
personally by Mr. McEwen, Leputy Prime Minister and Minister
for Trade during his visit to Japan early this month.
I very much welcome Mr. Ikeda's visit. It will be
the second official visit to Australia by a Prime Minister
of Japan, the previous one being that of Mr. Nobusuke Kishi
in 1957. A former Prime Minister, Mr. Shigeru Yoshida,
made a private visit in 1959.
