The Governor-General in Council has today approved the following Public Service appointments.
Mr A. D. Rose, formerly a Deputy Secretary in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, has been appointed Secretary, Department of Community Services, filling the vacancy resulting from the appointment of Mr M. H. Codd as Secretary, Department, of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. Mr Rose has had extensive experience over many years in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and was appointed a Deputy Secretary in that Department in 1982.
Dr V. W. J. FitzGerald, formerly a Deputy Secretary in the Department of Trade, has been appointed Secretary, Department of Trade. He replaces Mr J. L. N~ enadue, AO, who has been appointed by the Qantas Board as the airline's Chief Executive. After several years in the Treasury, Dr FitzGerald held senior appointments in the Industries Assistance Commission and the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet until his appointment in 1983 as a Deputy Secretary in the Department of Finance. He was then appointed in 1985 as a Deputy Secretary in the Department of Trade.
Mr Rose and Dr FitzGerald will take their new appointments tomorrow.
