The Prime Minister today announced the appointment of
Mr Roger Beale as a Commissioner of the Public Service
Board. This appointment will take effect when Mr R J Young,
currently Commissioner of the Board, retires next year.
Mr Young has indicated his intention. to resign as a
Commissioner and to retire from the Service on 11 January
1985.
The Prime Minister also announced that Mr Beale had been
appointed to act as Secretary to the Department of
Territories and Local Government for the period 4 October
to 15 November 1984 while the Secretary, Mr Enfield, is on
duty overseas. Mr Enfield will be proceeding overseas to
represent Australia at the United Nations on the historic
occasion of the ratification of the act of self-determination
of Cocos Island.
Mr Beale is currently acting Deputy Secretary in the
Department of Finance. In 1983, he was Director of the
Support Group on Public Service Reform, responsible for
developing policy proposals on the Government's reforms of
the Australian Public Service.
