The Economic Planning Advisory Council discussed a range of issues during its meeting in Canberra today.
The Treasurer reported on the broad strategy and detail of the 1984-85 Budget, and the Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations on labour market developments. Council members commented on key aspects of the Budget, generally very positively.
There was detailed discussion of longer-term growth and industry policy, building on the EPAC statement on Medium to Longer-Term Economic Policy issued after the March meeting.
EPAC members noted that the Australian Manufacturing industry Council's r-cent Statement on Manufacturing Industry Policy was consistent with the earlier statement of policy by EPAC.
They look forward to future development of more detailed policy within the Manufacturing Industry Council, as a basis for further discussion by EPAC.
EPAC received and welcomed the papers on taxation reform brought forward by the Business Council and by the! Council of Small Business Organisations of Australia.
