PRESS RELEASE RESIGNATION OF SIR WILLIAM ASHTON FROM
THE COMMONWEALTH ART ADVISORY BOARD
Statement by the Prime Minister, the Rt._ Hon. RG _ Menzies
The Prime Minister, Mr. Menzies announced today
that he has accepted the resignation of Sir William Ashton
as Chairman of the Commonwealth Art Advisory Board. sir
William was 81 on the 20th September this year.
The Prime Minister said, " Will Ashton has given
a lifetime of service to Australian art, as an artist
of great distinction, as a Gallery Director, and as a
member and then as Chairman of the Commonwealth Art
Advisory Board. He has served on the Board for 44 years,
nine of them as its Chairman. I regret that ill health
has made it impossible for him to continue the work with which
Le has been so long associated."
