I today proposecd to the Chief Minister of the cerii. ry,
Mr. Everingham, ai: 1 the South Austraianr Premiecr,
that the indenendent economic inquiry into transnort w; rvic's in
the Northern ' erritory should be conducted by the Chief
Executive of the NSW Rail Authority, Mr. David Hill.
Mr. Hill, 37, is an economist. He was appointed to the R! ail
Authority in July 1980. Prior to that he was Cornmissiencr of
the NSW Public Transport Commission. From 1976-197S Mr. Hill was
ecoinomics ad: iser to the NSW Premier, Mr. Wran.
I have asked Mr. Everingham and Mr. Bannon for urcnt inaton
of Mr. Hill s appointment and agreement to the proposed trm; of
reference. I have proposed that Mr. Hill should report his findings by
December 31, 1983.
