The Acting Prime Minister, Senator Spooiier,
and the Acting Treasurer Senator Paltridge, today raet
the Honourable C8W. Cnur%,, MinistL-er for the North-West
in the Western Austaralian Government, to disc-uss certain
imatters related to tn1e developmnt of the North-West of
Western Australia,, Senator Spooner recalled that the 1962/ 63
Commnonwealtluh Budget provides for a furth~ er grant of
œ C700-000 to Westein Australia for cattle roads in th. e
Nort -Vlest of the State and also for œ F300,000 towards
the construction of a neii jetty at Derby which' is also
related to the shipment of cattle. Senator Spocne~ r
said that today's meeting had discussed the detailed
arrangements under which these measures for special
Commonwealth financial. assistance would be made available
to thie State, Vie talks had been quite satisfactory
from both the Commonwoealthn and W est-Uern Australian points
of view. However, fie woul~ d need to discuss tfie matter
further with hlis colleagues in the Commrronwealthi Cabinet
before any announcement could be made0
