IRON TRIANGLE STUDY GROUP
The Prime Minister and the Premier of South Australia,
Mr David Tonkin, today announced that they had received the
report of the Iron Triangle Study Group.
The Study Group was formed in February 1981 as a result of
a joint Commonwealth-State initiative and comprised
representatives of Commonwealth, State and local government,
industries anid unions. The Group was required to investigate
and recommend the most appropriate long-term strategies for
development in the central part of South Australia with particular
emphasis on -the urban centres of Port Augusta, Port Pirie and
Whyalla. The Premier said both Governments would be reviewing the
report and its conclusions and giving consideration to the
scope for future action. He indicated that the report
would then be released for public review.
The Prime Minister and the Premnier expressed their appreciation
of the work of the Study Group in undertaking an exacting task.
The Study Group represented an important example of Commonwealth-
State co-operation and had been greatly assisted by the support
provided by many departments of both governments.
