PLANNING OF CANBERRA'S JUBILE
Statement by the Prime Minster the Rt Hon. RG. Menzies
Planning arrangements for the celebration on
March 12th, 1963 in the presence of Her Majesty the Queen
and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh of the
Jubilee of Canberra as the national capital were announced
today by the Prime Minister, Mr, Menzies.
The Prime Minister said that the Secretary of
the Department of the Interior Mr. WoA., MeLaren, would
be responsible for organising ? he Canberra Day celebrations
with the assistance of a representative local commituee,
The Jubilee would be the central feature of
the Canberra section of the Royal Visit and the presence
of the Queen was expected to give the occasion great
national significance, Organisation of the celebrations would be
integrated with the overall planning of the Canberra
visit for whilh, as already announced, the Chief Ceremonial
Officer of the Prime Minister's Department, Mr. J. H,
Scholtens, would be responsible,
