QUEENSLAND FLOODS DALBY
The Prime Minister, Mr. Malcolm Fraser, today expressed his
concern over the serious floods that yesterday inundated
Dalby and surrounding areas on the Darling Downs north-west
of Toowoomba.
Mr. Fraser said that he had telexed the Premier of Queensland
conveying on behalf of the Commonwealth Government sympathy
to the relatives of those who were casualties and to all
those suffering personal hardship and distress as a result
of this catastrophe.
The Prime minister also said that the Commonwealth had
provided a helicopter to enable a survey of the damage to be
done and to enable the Premier, the Queensland Minister for
Local Government and the Mayor of Dalby to' see for themselves
the extent of the flooding.
Mr. Fraser emphasised that the Commonwealth would be providiingr
immediate relief under the Natural Disaster Assistance
Arrangements for all those suffering personal hardship and
distress on a dollar for dollar basis with the Queensland Government.
