MEDIA RELEASE REMUNERATION TRIBUNAL -1977 REVIEW
Statement by the Acting Prime Minister, Minister for National
Resources and Minister for Overseas Trade, the Rt Hon. J. D. Anthony
The Acting Prime Minister, Mr. J. D. Anthony,
said today that in accordance with normal practice,
the Government will consider the 1977 Review of the
Remuneration Tribunal and decide what action it will
take on it. In accordance with its statutory responsibilities,
the Remuneration Tribunal has submitted its 1977 Review
in respect of the salaries of Members of Parliament,
Ministers, Opposition Leaders, Judges, Permanent Heads and
other statutory officeholders.
The Government put the view to the Tribunal
that, in the current economic situation, the Review should
not provide for any increases in salary.
