Statement by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. KoEG. Menzies
Mr, Menzies and other Commonwealth Ministers met
representatives of the Australian Council of Trade Unions in
Canberra this morning to receive their views on the present
employment situation. During the course of the discussions
the representatives of the Unions submitted certain proposals.
The Australian Council of Trade Unions was
represented by Mr. Albert Monk, President, Mr. H. J. Souter,
Secretary, Mr. J. D. Kenny, Senior Vice President and i~ r.
3vans, Junior Vice President.
After the meeting the Prime Minister said that he
understood the Union representatives proposed to issue a
summary of their proposals to the press. There had been
considerable discussion at the meeting of some aspects of
these proposals which included some valuable information.
The views expressed by the Union representatives would be
considered closely by the Government. It had also been
decided that certain of the proposals would be discussed
further with the Minister and senior officers of the
Department of Labour and National Service.
