The Prime Minister announced today that it was
Her Majesty The Queen's intention to appoint an
Australian, Mr. John Dauth, to be Assistant Press
Secretary at Buckingham Palace for a period of two
years.
For some years now, Her Majesty has appointed
officers from various Commonwealth countries to
hEr personal staff for periods of secondment.
Mr. Dauth's appointment is in line with this
policy and he will be replacing the present
Canadian officer whose term has been completed.
Mr. Dauth who is single, is an officer of the
Department of Foreign Affairs. / 2. 3

JOHN CECIL DAUTH
Born Brisbane 9 April 1947
Educated Gosford High School and University
of Sydney, B. A. ( Hons)
Appointed to the Commonwealth Public Service
21 January 1969, as External Affairs Officer, Class 1.
Subsequently served in the Public Information Office, Department
of External Affairs; as Third, later Second Secretary in the
Australian High Commnission, Lagos ( June 1970-July 1972); in the
Information Co-ordination Section, Post Liaison Unit and East
Europe Section, Department of Foreign Affairs 1972-74; and,
from November 1974 until December 1976, as First Secretary in
the Australian Embassy in Islamabad.
Current substantive rank: Foreign Affairs Officer Class 3.
Mr. Dauth is single.
NOTE: In 1.959 another Australian, Mr. William Heseltine, was
appointed to the Palace staff as part of this programme.
After Mr. Heseltine had completed his term of secondment
he returned to London to take up a permanent position on
the Palace staff.
