FUNDS FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT

FOR PRESS OCTOBER 4, 1976
FUNDS FOR LOCAL GOVERNMNT
Local Government will receive funds being made available
under the Federalism policy in one amount as early as possible
in each financial year.
The Government will legislate soon for the early payment of
funds to local government in this and future years.
The Government's decision will relieve substantially the
period of tight liquidity which local government generally
faces in the first quarter of its financial year until the
main cash flow from rates comences.
As already announced, local government is to receive $ 140
maillion in general revenue assistance in 1976/ 77 an increase
of 75/ 1 over the amount provided last year.
71these lands will be available as soon as the relevant
legislation is passed and the State authorities have determined
the d-istribution to individual local government authorities.
In futu-re years local government can expect to receive general
revenue funds provided by the Commnonwealth as soon as the
State authorities advise the Commnonwealth of the distribution
between individual councils. K'. ALI( A
