A State Memorial Service will be held on Monday to honour the life and achievements of the Honourable Barry Cohen AM.
The service will commemorate Mr Cohen’s decades of public service and pay tribute to a man who dedicated his life to serving the Australian community – including in his later years through his tireless advocacy for finding a cure for Alzheimer's disease.
Mr Cohen served as the federal member for the New South Wales seat of Robertson from 1969 to 1990.
He also held three ministerial posts between 1984 and 1987 as the Minister for Home Affairs and the Environment, Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Environment, and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Bicentennial.
For his service to the nation, he was appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia in 2007.
Mr Cohen’s State Memorial Service will be held at 11.00 am on 5 February 2018 in the Members’ Dining Room, Old Parliament House, Canberra, ACT.
