Field Marshall Montgomery was one of the great soldiers
of our time.
He served the allied cause nobly during World War II; he
won a great victory at El Alemein. Australians were part
of that victory.
The Field Marshall was not only a'great soldier, but after
the war was active in the pursuit of peace.
He was one of the great citizens of the world and lived part
of his life in Australia.
We all owe him a great debt and are saddened by his death.
